My "go to" for electrical connections. Much easier to connect different wire types than wire nuts. I have used these for the past 4-5 years. I've had zero issues with them. They just work.

I love Wago connectors. They make electrical connections easy. I already had a plastic case from a previous order. I just used up the last of two types of connectors in a smoke detector replacement project.Note that this product does NOT come in a plastic case. Just I used it (with plenty left over) to refill the plastic case of Wago connectors that I keep in my "electrical toolbox".

To begin, I am not a professional electrician. I wanted to do some simple upgrades around my house this summer, including replacement of some light and fan fixtures. I have never been a huge fan of the wire nut and electrical tape solution.In my efforts to search for alternatives (I mean I figured it was 2022, there had to be someone that has come up with another way by now) I came across two options. One option I found at my local hardware store. It was cheaper than the WAGO 221s, so I wanted to see if they would work. These are the push-in connectors that you see in my second photo. The packaging on these said that it could handle both stranded and solid wire. This is crucial because while your home is likely wired internally with solid wire, items you buy that needs to be wired into your home will likely have stranded wire. Therefore, when doing house projects that require wiring in a new fixture or something similar, you will almost always have to deal with stranded wire. As you will see in my picture of the push-in wire connectors, the solid wire inserted nicely, but the stranded wire did not do so well. It did not matter how much I pre-twisted the wire. There were some online that suggested soldering the tips of the stranded wire before pushing it into the connector, but you might as well go back to using wire nuts, if you need to put that much effort into wire connecting.The other option was the WAGO connectors. Now, I will be honest, the reason they were not my first choice is because I thought the price was kind of high for a wire connector. However, after buying them, I now see why they worth the money. I apologize for the lighting in the photo, but the connector you see has two stranded wires and one solid. All fully inserted as they should with no broken, bend, and frayed strands. You just open the lever, insert the wire, and close the lever. It cannot get simpler than that. I was a little concerned that there was a little give in the levers when clamped down on the wire and they seemed a bit too easy to open. My solution was to put 2-3 inches of electrical tape around WAGO connector securing the levers and protecting them from accidental opening.If you are ready to move beyond wire nuts for your home projects, there is no better solution than WAGO Lever-Nuts. A little more pricy than the other options, but worth every penny.

I learned about these from a YouTube video.These are great for any house-hold wiring, but what I like about them is that they are faster and more secure than a standard "American" wire nut. I've used them for a few years now - one repair was for an outside outlet that stopped working - the wire had pulled out of the back of an outlet, and whoever had done the work before cut the wire too short for anything accept putting the wire in the back. Or so I thought. Cleaned wire, and worked great with a lever nut - especially since I was on a ladder to reach it - it was tucked up under the eves and was for switching christmas lights. Recommend. If you value your time, use these.
