The Art of Voice Acting 5th Edition

The Art of Voice Acting by James Alburger is simply THE Gold Standard in the voice acting business. There are many voice acting instructional books out there in the field and I’ve read quite a few of them. Many, frankly aren’t worth the read. Some are very good. But this is clearly head and shoulders above all the rest, offering the most thorough perspectives of every facet of the business you need to know. If you want to know how to get into voice acting, how to take care of your voice, what to do to prepare for auditions, how to market yourself and manage your career as a business and much more, I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

There are plenty of great books available for artists in the voiceover industry or those looking at the craft. Yet, if you had to choose just one to own and read, this would be the one. It is truly the bible of voice acting. Thank you James Alburger!

The book itself is EXCELLENT! Read the other reviews and the reviews for the print edition of the book.BUT...the Kindle edition has a major flaw, precipitating the need for my purchase of print edition.Let me explain. Embedded in the text are numerous QR codes (or what the author calls "response codes"). Scanning these codes with a free app on a smart phone is SUPPOSED TO take you to the appropriate place on the author's website. Once there you can hear audio, read a script, or engage in a similar activity. Notice how the words "SUPPOSED TO" are capitalized? I did that because on the Kindle edition, ALL of the QR codes are the same. They all take you to the same spot on the author's website.It these codes actually worked, I suspect it would have been an outstanding addition to the book. But I was able to find a few things myself on the website, but most of them I did not. So I am buying the paper text in order to actually find the appropriate website locations. This is a needed (for me at least), but unnecessary expense. More importantly, it reduces the portability of the book when I travel.The Kindle is amazing in that it is lightweight and packs well. Books are much less so. Despite the problems with this particular book, I am an unabashed Kindle fan. But this particular book, if you want to read and completely utilize the the QR codes, evidently you need to purchase the print edition. But you should do that if you want to get an excellent book concerning the art of voice acting. The text is five-stars good. The Kindle edition lacks.

This is a handy product for voice actors. It shares info on the process - how to use your voice and how to make your voice work in your career. I'm training to be a voice over talent - so for VO talents - it's a must have.

I was trying to understand a little about the voice acting or the voice over acting to be able to communicate with my son whom is studying it and may be will perform professionally in several opportunities available to him.This book is very effective in helping me accomplishing this although it also was written for professionals to improve their performance and help them in their carriers.Very good book , thank you
